She grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina but after graduation from Chapel Hill has lived and practiced nursing in Virginia as a Registered Nurse. Her experience over her nursing career has included work in an extended care facility in Blacksburg, Virginia as nursing supervisor, public health nurse in both Fauquier and Fairfax County, hospice care and triage nurse for the Hospice of Northern Virginia, and staff nurse and nurse manager at a private special needs school in Alexandria, Virginia for the last ten years. A scholarship was awarded by the National School Nurses Association in 2017 to further her education in the field of special needs, specifically students on the autism spectrum and those with behavioral and learning disabilities.
Becoming a nursing instructor for high school students at West Potomac Academy fulfills a strong desire to enable young students today to pursue their goal of entering the healthcare field, and to equip them to become compassionate and well-trained caregivers at whatever level of healthcare profession they desire to attain.
