Music & Computer Technology 1 Course Description:
Students will explore the use of computers and other electronic technologies in music including: Musical Instrumental Digital Interface (MIDI), analog and digital synthesis, sequencing, acoustics, sound processing, and electronic musical composition using the latest music industry software and the internet. Students at West Potomac Academy are introduced to the latest technology and their uses by early and modern composers. Students will create individual and group projects in a variety of musical styles and genres using a combination of MIDI and Digital Audio software. Assignments include composition, arranging, music theory, use of MIDI and synthesizers, and recording in digital audio. All students enter this class with some instrumental and/or vocal training, basic knowledge of the piano, music reading skills, and music theory training. The classroom is equipped with MIDI/Digital, Audio interfaced computers containing some of the latest production and composition software, standard in the music industry today.
