Department of Public Safety Communications Partnership and Virtual Learning

DPSC, Jessica Daza Daniel, Communications Operations Supervisor, has created a virtual co-teaching program with the 911 academy course’s instructor, Colin Flannigan.  Regular virtual classroom visits have occurred to support curriculum topics.  Just some of the topics covered are an overview of DPSC and the many departments within, a video of several employees and their career paths, the history and future of technology used for call taking, and examples of recordings of 911 calls, used in interactive lessons.

The Fairfax County Department of Public Safety and Communications entered into a partnership with West Potomac Academy last school year.  DPSC supports the 911 program with presentations and career shadows where students tour the DPSC facility and its many departments and students are able to sit with 911 call takers.  DPSC also supports the EMT and Criminal Justice programs at West Potomac Academy.
