Inova Mount Vernon Hospital Partnership Recognized
State of Education Luncheon Was a Great Success!
The Foundation for FCPS and Dr. Scott Brabrand welcomed over 300 business and community leaders to the State of Education Luncheon on Tuesday, November 27. The keynote address was given by J. Stephen Jones, M.D., CEO, Inova Health System. The event recognized the 2017-18 Partners of the Year, teacher grants, and emphasized the theme, "Building the Workforce of the Future."
West Potomac Academy, A Governor's Health Sciences Academy, honored it's business partnership with Inova Mount Vernon Hospital as being a finalist for Workforce Development Partner of the year.
Inova Mount Vernon Hospital Since 2016, the hospital has provided West Potomac Academy Health & Medical Science students with information and real life career experience in the healthcare industry in four core areas: career exploration, clinical observation, volunteerism and workforce development. Four students are now full-time employees at the hospital.
Congratulations to the Award Winners!
Business Partner of the Year: Apple Federal Credit Union and its Foundation for supporting the development and retention of new employees through the Great Beginnings Summer Institute and Teacher Induction Program, as well as financial support of the FCPS Honors recognition event and the Superintendent’s Leadership Conference.
Workforce Development Partner: United States Geological Survey works with Chantilly and South Lakes High Schools' students with disabilities. During the 2017-18 school year, 17 students worked at USGS on special projects such as bird-banding or digital mapping, and over the years of the partnership, six students from the program were permanently hired.
Community Partner of the Year: Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia offered its programming at more than 60 schools last year, with a goal of developing leadership skills and confidence in girls through the sport of running. Last year, over 2,200 students in FCPS participated, and 330 of those received financial aid from Girls on the Run.
